Cara Johnston is an actor and playwright from Dallas, Texas.
A critically acclaimed playwright, Cara's plays mix humor and heartbreak to tell women’s stories with imagination and heart. A filmed production of her debut work, The Little Glass Slipper as Performed by the Queen of France and Her Friends, premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and received five-star reviews. The film was later televised on PBS stations across Texas. In 2023, she performed her one-woman play The Madwoman at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where she again received five-stars and an OffFest nomination. In 2025, Cara was selected as the Br!NK Resident Playwright with Renaissance Theaterworks.
As an actor, she has performed at theatres in Texas, Louisiana, Wisconsin and Scotland, with favorite roles including Cherie in Bus Stop and the title role in Medea.
Cara often finds her inspiration deep in the archives of Wikipedia and through collaboration with her sister.
